The Missing Walk is designed to be simple while you are moving. These answers cover the most likely issues during an investigation.

Common questions

How does walking progression work?

Physical distance advances the investigation. As you walk, the app reaches authored distance thresholds and delivers the next narrative update.

Do I need to follow a particular route?

No. The Missing Walk is not a route-navigation game. Walk somewhere suitable and safe. Progress is based on distance travelled rather than reaching predetermined locations.

Why does The Missing Walk need location permission?

Location permission is used to measure walking progress. If permission is denied, the investigation cannot reliably advance by real-world distance. Use the app's permission recovery guidance or iPhone Settings to review access.

Why is my distance not advancing?

Check that location access is enabled, that the investigation is not paused and that your iPhone can obtain a usable location signal. If you have just changed permission settings, return to the app and resume the investigation.

Can I lock my phone while walking?

The V1 app is designed to support lock-screen walking and background location tracking. Keep audio available if you want to hear spoken updates while the phone is away.

Can I pause and resume an investigation?

Yes. Pausing is intended to stop active walking progression until you choose to resume.

What happens if I close the app?

The investigation includes persistence and restore behaviour so progress can be resumed after an interruption. Reopen the app and follow the restore/resume state presented there.

Do I need headphones?

Headphones are recommended because spoken updates reduce the need to look at the screen while walking. They are part of the intended experience, but the public site does not claim they are technically mandatory.

How do I restart The Last Message?

The app includes a restart flow. Use the restart control provided in the investigation interface. Restarting is expected to reset the current case, so use it only when you intend to begin again.
